“It gives me tremendous joy to support leading scientists. It is my hope that through this professorship new discoveries will be made to help save people’s lives.” Dr Tam Wah-ching
June 2008
In October 2008, a ceremony was held to celebrate the establishment of the Tam Wah-Ching Professorship in Medical Science, which was made possible through a donation of $10 million from Dr Tam Wah-ching and matched by the University to form a permanent endowment of $20 million.
The ceremony was attended by friends of Dr Tam and the University, and was followed by a dinner in honour of Dr Tam at University Lodge.
The establishment of the Tam Wah-Ching Professorship in Medical Science will assist Professor Peiris, Tam Wah-Ching Professor in Medical Science, in his pioneering research. The current research interests of Professor Peiris focus on the epidemiology, clinical disease burden, evolution and pathogenesis of animal and human influenza and other human respiratory viruses.
