On February 2, The HKU Foundation was proud to host a special gathering for the Young Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship, bringing together the passionate young leaders today with the visionary donors who make their journey possible. Since its inception, the scholarship has nurtured over 500 scholars, who have distinguished themselves in their respective professions and communities.

We were deeply honoured to welcome Ms Shelley Lee, former Director of Home Affairs Department, as our guest of honour. Ms Lee played a pivotal role in the scholarship history, serving as the vital bridge between the 90 local community leaders who contributed to the setting up of an endowment fund in support of the scholarship and the University. Her presence was a meaningful reminder of how a collective vision for Hong Kong’s future can create a lasting legacy of opportunity.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all donors who have supported the scheme over the years; their generosity has laid a strong foundation for the programme and created an enduring legacy of opportunity for generations of HKU students. We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Chan Kwok Chiu, Chairman of the Yuen Yuen Institute, for his recent contribution to the scheme. Dr. Chan has pledged HK$200,000 to support the "Young Leaders of Tomorrow" Programme, ensuring that future generations of students with exceptional leadership potential can continue to thrive at HKU. His commitment reflects our shared belief in investing in the leaders who will shape our communities tomorrow.

About the Young Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship

This scholarship scheme was first launched in 1998 as the “Young Leaders of Tomorrow” scholarship programme. With the support of The Home Affairs Department, 90 local community leaders contributed to the setting up of an endowment fund in support of the scholarship on the occasion of the University’s 90th Anniversary celebrations in 2001.
