Outstanding researchers receive recognition at the HKU Graduate School Award Presentation Ceremony

Jan 2009

Forty-one research postgraduate students of various disciplines received awards at the Award Presentation Ceremony of The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Graduate School held in December 2008.

The recipients of these awards are selected based on the quality of their thesis and academic performance.

The University Postgraduate Fellowships were established in 2007 by The University of Hong Kong Foundation for Educational Development and Research (HKU Foundation). A total of 32 students received the University Postgraduate Fellowships (2008-2009), two more than the previous year.

The Li Ka Shing Prize and Mrs Li Ka Shing Postgraduate Scholarships were established in 1991 through a generous donation from Dr Li Ka-shing. Initially awarded every two years to four postgraduate students, the Li Ka Shing Prize is now awarded to six postgraduate students each year in order to encourage greater academic research. The Prizes are awarded to one MPhil graduate and two PhD graduates from each of the two broad groups of “arts and humanities” and “science and engineering”. Three students were awarded Mrs Li Ka Shing Postgraduate Scholarships (2008-2009).

These awards are a mark of HKU’s commitment to support research students and represent an investment in the future.
