New round of matching raises challenges and opportunities

August 2012

To encourage private donations in support of higher education, the Government has allocated $2.5 billion for the Sixth Matching Grant Scheme which commenced on August 1, 2012. The matching grant will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is a most welcome opportunity for the University to garner support for research, teaching and learning.

For this latest round of matching, the competition will be fiercer than before as the Scheme now extends to 17 institutions. Plus there is the undeniable need for more resources with the double cohort intake in autumn. However, with challenges come opportunities. In general, for every $2 donation obtained, there will be a $1 matching grant.

The Scheme will span two years and the matching ceiling for each institution is set at $600 million.

Your support is important to take HKU to new heights!
