In March 2022, the Jardine Foundation pledged to establish the Jardine HKU Scholarship at The University of Hong Kong. Through the Scholarship the Jardine Foundation is supporting access to higher education for students from less affluent backgrounds and nurturing them to be future leaders who will give back to their communities.
“The Jardine Foundation Scholarship has given me the opportunity to further my higher education without putting a financial burden on my family. Being from an underprivileged family, I have experienced how the housing situation in Hong Kong affects a child’s education and how difficult it is to break intergenerational poverty. The scholarship will enable me to help more people, especially children in similar circumstances to myself, and inspire others to do the same,” said Ash Lo, a 2022 Jardine-HKU scholar.
Up to ten new scholarships shall be awarded annually under the scheme to local Year 1 undergraduate students admitted to HKU, on the basis of academic merit, leadership potential, commitment towards their communities and financial need.
