The Innovation and Technology Scholarship aims to nurture young talents in science and technology, and encourage them to participate in overseas/Mainland institutes’ programmes, service projects and mentorship programmes. Fifteen HKU students from Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Science, Speech and Hearing, and Dentistry were awarded this Scholarship in 2020 and 2021.
Medical Student Matthew Chow (MBBS II) plans to use the fund to support his activities during the MBBS Enrichment Year. As an aspiring clinician-scientist, he will study for a master’s degree in medical research in London. He hopes to gain more experience in clinical research and learn from renowned academics at the forefront of their respective fields.
Longing for overseas opportunities, Biomedical Student Zara Chui (BBiomedSc I) will use the scholarship to study at summer school in London. Compared to Hong Kong, the UK has ample biomedical research opportunities for students. She thinks it is a valuable opportunity to widen her horizons because she can collaborate and exchange opinions with international scholars. She aspires to combine new knowledge and past experiences in VR technology and 3D printing to enhance accuracy in biomedical experiments.
The Innovation and Technology Scholarship, jointly supported and sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission and HSBC, selects 25 local undergraduates every year who demonstrate enthusiasm in innovation and technology.
