The HKU Foundation and the Faculty of Science (in celebration of its 80th Oak Anniversary) were proud to present the exclusive and unique “East Africa Wildlife Eco-Tour”, curated and guided by Dr Billy Hau of the School of Biological Sciences.
This adventure of a lifetime was very much a journey of sharing and learning, with alumni and Foundation Members generously supporting the students who participated as eco-leaders and their personal eco-guides.
The 13-day Eco-Tour whisked the group away from city life in July 2019 to the legendary Masai Mara where they witnessed the Great Migration, one of nature’s most spectacular events.
At Amboseli, the group experienced the breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and, as they relaxed on their balconies, watched a large herd of elephants visit the hotel’s well-lit waterhole and saltlick to take a refreshing drink.
Excursions through the Samburu Game Reserve, Maasai Mara National Reserve, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Lake Naivasha and Lake Nakuru National Park gave the group an incredible opportunity to observe the amazing biodiversity of the region. The final tally: more than 330 species of birds, 60 species of mammals, and 15 species of reptiles and amphibians.
