As a female leader in the banking industry, the late Ms Louisa Cheang 鄭慧敏 (BSocSc 1985) made an influential impact on society and her aspirations will live on.
Louisa joined HSBC in 1999 and worked in the personal finance, marketing and retail sectors. In 2007, she was appointed Head of Personal Financial Services at HSBC. Louisa was the third female CEO of Hang Seng Bank, which has the highest representation of women leaders among retail lenders in Hong Kong. Louisa’s endeavours, open-mindedness and leadership were deeply respected and admired.
Apart from creating possibilities in the banking industry, Louisa was committed to her alma mater. She was appointed a court member of HKU in 2018 and supported the University’s activities. Louisa was also an advocate of gender equality, having published several articles about raising the level of female representation on Hong Kong’s boards.
To honour her remarkable achievements, Louisa’s family set up the “Louisa Cheang Inspiration Scholarship” on her behalf, with the aim of supporting young underprivileged talents to pursue their dreams and nurture them to become business leaders who will contribute back to society. She will always be a role model for HKU students and her aspirations will live on.
