A nearly missed chemistry practical exam and a kind gesture from an unknown lady some thirty years ago are what prompted Dr Tse Kong to donate HK$200,000 to the Department of Chemistry.
Back in his matriculation days, Dr Tse was late to the examination room, but a silver-haired lady allowed him in to take the exam.
This small kindness has never been forgotten by Dr Tse and, when he decided to repay all the acts of kindness he received throughout his life before his retirement, he remembered that lady and her compassion for a tardy, anxious student.
As Aesop, the Ancient Greek fabulist wrote: “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”
