After joining the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaeology, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in 1996, Professor Ernest H Y Ng is dedicated to the research in reproductive medicine. As a firm believer and preacher of evidence-based medicine, he had conducted many clinical randomized trials which contribute significantly in the area of assisted reproduction and improve clinical practice locally and internationally. He is collaborating research with many centres in mainland China, Europe and the UK to provide more impactful studies. He is also working with scientists to have a better understanding of the development of gametes and embryos and the interaction of the embryos and the female reproductive tract, paving the translational research from the laboratory to the clinical application.

The success rate of the programme is among the best in this region and on a par with the international standard. He set up the first  preimplantation genetic testing program to patients at risk of serious genetic diseases due to chromosomal and single gene defects. He helped to set up the assisted reproduction programme at Kwong Wah Hospital providing assisted reproduction treatment to patients living in Kowloon and New Territories.

In order to improve patients’ knowledge, accessibility to treatment and treatment journey experience, he set up Facebook and YouTube channels to disseminate the latest evidence based medical information and is hosting monthly webinars to patients in the waiting list of the treatment.
