Sun Chieh Yeh Heart Foundation Professorship in Cardiovascular Therapeutics

Professor Yiu Kai-Hang is a distinguished clinical cardiologist specializing in advanced cardiovascular therapeutics, with a focus on interventional procedures such as percutaneous coronary intervention for coronary artery disease and structural intervention for valvular disease. His research interests lie in Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging and Big Data Analytics, enabling the identification of subclinical cardiovascular abnormalities to enhance patient management and improve outcomes. Professor Yiu has spearheaded significant research projects including the Chinese Valvular Heart Disease Study (CVATS), the Chinese Diabetic Heart Disease Study (CDATS), and the Chinese Rheumatology Heart Disease Study (CRADS). Leveraging big data analytics, he evaluates epidemiology in common cardiovascular diseases, drug safety, and efficacy. He also explores the use of angiographic-guided functional assessment to enhance success rates following coronary artery interventions. He has articles published as the corresponding author in the top three cardiology journals: Circulation, European Heart Journal, and Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

At the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital, a pioneering institution established in 2012, Professor Yiu leads the Division of Cardiology. His outstanding contributions have been recognized with numerous national and international accolades, such as the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards Global Safety Award in 2021. The Division of Cardiology was designated as a Key Development Specialty by the Shenzhen Municipal Health Commission in 2020. In 2018, Professor Yiu was honored as an Elite Young Medical Leader of Guangdong Province, China, and designated as a B-grade talent in the Shenzhen Health System. He was also the recipient of the Clinical Service Excellence Award by the HKUMED in 2023, underscoring his clinical expertise and service advancements.
