HKU First-in-the-Family Education (FIFE) Fund is dedicated to empowering students who are the first in their families to attend University by offering financial support for experiential learning opportunities.

The gathering this year celebrated how the Fund continues to open doors for students to explore the world, broaden their horizons, and shape their futures.

Dr Patrick Poon, Deputy Chairman of the HKU Foundation, encouraged ongoing support for the FIFE Fund, stating, “The best investment we can ever make is in nurturing the next generation.”

Mr David Wong, Chairman of the FIFE Fund Steering Committee, urged students to fully utilise the Fund to gain new perspectives through hands-on experiences.

During the reception, two FIFE Fund recipients shared how the Fund has impacted their educational journeys. Alumna Ms Anthea Jiang (BSW 2025) made use of the Fund for a trip to Armenia in studying Archaeology. Additionally, she used the funding to study for and obtain a tourist guide licence, as well as to support her drone learning. Another recipient, Ms Angel Heung, an Arts student, utilised the Fund for learning piano and Japanese.
