Mr Wong Chue Meng and Wong Family
Mr Wong Chue Meng, co-founder of the Stelux Group, played a pivotal role in transforming the company from a watch component manufacturer into a dynamic and diversified conglomerate. His remarkable career was not only distinguished by his business acumen but also by his heartfelt commitment to philanthropy. At HKU, Mr Wong generously dedicated his time and resources as an Honorary Patron of the HKU Foundation, exemplifying his deep care for education and community.
Following in the footsteps of the late Mr and Madam Wong, their son Mr Joseph Wong (黃創增), has continued the family’s proud philanthropic traditions. Mr Wong has enthusiastically served on the Board of Directors of the HKU Foundation for over two decades, backed the University’s research endeavours through the Endowed Professorship scheme, and nurtured the next generations of students through the HKU Mentorship programme. In recognition of his contributions to Hong Kong and academia, he was presented the Honorary University Fellow in 2012.

MENG WAH COMPLEX
MENG WAH COMPLEX
“Meng Wah” is one of the most familiar abbreviations within the HKU community. For students admitted after 1995, visiting the Meng Wah Complex for the university’s medical and dental care services has likely become a common experience.
Officially named the “Meng Wah Complex,” it was opened on December 15, 1995. Situated at the southeastern corner of the Main Campus, it features twin towers—the Wong Chue Meng Building (黃子明樓) and the Wong Chuang Lai Wah Building (黃莊麗華樓). When it first opened, the complex served as the home for the Faculty of Social Sciences, the School of Business, and various other academic units.
Today, the Meng Wah Complex is an integral part of HKU campus life. It houses the Faculty of Education, the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS) — a one-stop hub offering comprehensive support and services for students, and the university’s medical and dental clinics. On top of the complex, a rooftop farm provides organic farming workshops for students and staff, creating opportunities to engage in sustainable agriculture right on campus.
