Dr Philip Wong and Wong Family
“Thank God for a garden. Be it ever so small”
“The Little Garden” was a gift to the University from the Wong family and was officially opened on March 19, 2014. The name of the Garden was proposed by Mrs Gertrude Wong (黃鄭國璋), wife of the late Dr Philip Wong (黃乾亨).
Located at the very west rim of the Centennial Campus, the Garden is filled with plants carefully chosen to create a quiet area for peaceful study and contemplation for students and visitors. At the opening, Vice-Chancellor thanked Mrs Wong and the Wong family for their generous support to HKU over the years.

“Thank God for a garden. Be it ever so small”
“The Little Garden” was a heartfelt gift to the University from the Wong family, officially opened on March 19, 2014. The name was lovingly proposed by Mrs Gertrude Wong (黃鄭國璋), wife of the late Dr Philip Wong (黃乾亨), in honour of their enduring connection to HKU.
Nestled at the western edge of the Centennial Campus, the Garden is thoughtfully planted with greenery chosen to create a serene space — a quiet haven for reflection, study, and calm. It stands as a gentle reminder of the generosity and vision of the Wong family, whose support has touched generations of HKU students and scholars.
At the opening ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor expressed deep gratitude to Dr and Mrs Wong, and the Wong family for their longstanding contributions to the University, and for gifting a space that continues to inspire peace and contemplation.
