Dr William Charles Goddard Knowles
Before joining the University, Dr Knowles served as the General Manager at Butterfield & Swire and held the position of Chairman at Cathay Pacific Airways. His connection with the University can be traced back to the late 1950s, during which he served as a member of the Court and Council from 1958 to 1965, and as Treasurer from 1962 to 1964. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the University, the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa was conferred on Dr Knowles in 1964.

KNOWLES BUILDING
KNOWLES BUILDING
The Knowles Building stands as a tribute to Dr William Charles Goddard Knowles (鈕魯詩), who assumed the office of the University's Vice-Chancellor on November 19, 1964, succeeding Sir Lindsay Ride (賴廉士爵士).
In 1984, a devastating fire swept through the Department of Architecture within the Knowles Building, resulting in significant damage to the third and fourth floors. Consequently, the Department temporarily relocated to its original site at the Duncan Sloss Building (now demolished) in the western side of the campus.
After a restoration process lasting over a year and a half, the Department returned to the Knowles Building in August of the following year, where it continues to be housed.
