Dr Chow Yei-Ching
Dr Chow Yei-Ching, the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Chevalier Group, believed that a community’s greatest resource is its people; and that education is the cornerstone of personal growth and development. He generously contributed not only his financial resources but also his time and unwavering commitment to advancing education.
He served as the Founding Honorary Patron of the HKU Foundation when it was established in 1995, sharing his expertise, insights, and personal philosophy with younger generations on numerous occasions, including at the Congregation and High Table dinners. Furthermore, Dr Chow extended his support to other sister institutions by serving in various advisory roles.
His dedication to giving back and mentoring future leaders exemplifies his deep commitment to community building and educational excellence. In recognition of his invaluable support for education, he was awarded the Honorary University Fellow in 1995 and conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws honoris causa in 1997.

Chow Yei Ching Building (周亦卿樓), officially opened on November 9, 1995, marks a significant milestone in the university’s century-long architectural journey. Its design was thoughtfully harmonised with the dark brown academic structures erected in the 1980s, creating a cohesive aesthetic that unites the Main Campus. With the opening of the Centennial Campus in 2012, Chow Yei Ching Building has become a vital link, seamlessly connecting the Main Campus and the Centennial Campus.
As the central hub for the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Department of Computer Science (part of the School of Computing and Data Science established in July 2024), the building has played a crucial role in nurturing intellectual growth, fostering innovation, and advancing technological progress. Through its presence, Dr Chow’s enduring legacy continues to thrive, exemplifying his unwavering dedication to educational excellence and community development.
