Kenneth K Y Wong

Li Shu-Pui Professorship in Surgery

Professor Kenneth Wong received his medical degree from University of Edinburgh and his Ph.D degree in immunology at Imperial College, London. He is Li Shu-Pui Endowed Professor in Surgery and Chief of Paediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). 

 

He is an internationally renowned paediatric surgeon with clinical interests in neonatal surgery, advanced laparoscopic/ robotic surgery, gastrointestinal and thoracic surgery. He set up the paediatric robotic surgery and introduced single port surgery, bariatric surgery and thoracoscopic surgery in children in Hong Kong.

 

He has been co-project leader in “Laparoscopic Workshops for Paedaitric Surgeons in China” since 2007 and has helped train over 2500 Chinese paediatric surgeons.  In his continuous pursuit of clinical excellence, he and his team were awarded the Hospital Authority Outstanding Team Award for Neonatal Surgical Service in 2023.

 

He has published over 240 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has an h-index of 43 with over 8000 citations. He has been included as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists since 2020. He serves as Founding Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Pediatric Surgery Open, is Associate Editor for Journal of Pediatric Surgery, Frontiers in Pediatrics and BMC Pediatrics, and also sits on the Editorial Board of 5 other Science Citation Index (SCI) journals. He has been invited and given over 100 invited lectures worldwide. In 2022, he established the “East Asia Research Group” with 3 paediatric surgery units in Japan to foster closer international research collaboration.

 

Professor Wong is the current President of Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons (PAPS), Asian Association of Pediatric Surgeons (AAPS) and Hong Kong Society of Paediatric Surgery.
